New Facility Progress
It was a particularly busy summer filled with our SOLID Summer Tour programs and various community outreach initiatives. However, when we weren’t actively hitting the streets and connecting with kids, we were focused on getting the new SOLID Training Facility ready to open.
This is what the second floor looked like when we moved in on June 1st - a little raw, but it has good bones!
…and this is what it looks like today. 90% of this transformation was done by our crew from the Paterson skateboarding community. From top to bottom - everything became a learning opportunity and workshop.
Learning opportunities and Workshops
Painting, flooring, assembling the furniture, and much more were among the various skills and workshops we taught this summer. We took every opportunity to teach important, transferable life skills - empowering our dedicated team to actively contribute to shaping a facility built by them and designed for the benefit of the community.
Inspiration and Transferable Life-skills
Once we finished upstairs, we shifted our focus to rebuilding our ramps downstairs in the warehouse. Huge shout out to our friend Jordan Gesko from Resourceful Build, LLC who led several days of ramp building workshops, sharing his story, teaching our group about:
foundation and platform construction
ramp radius and transition
measuring and cutting plywood
setting the coping
top surface cutting and countersinking
…and much more. Thank you, Jordan!
I’m so proud of these guys - creating an amazing place for kids in Paterson, NJ.
