The letter A in our S.K.A.T.E.R. Code stand for Appreciate.

In this season of gratitude, I think about the friends, donors and funders who have made SOLID possible over the past 2+ decades. And for me, the story of the Good Samaritan comes to mind.

In the Good Samaritan story, a man lies injured and alone on the side of the road after being beaten and abused. The first two travelers, preoccupied with their own issues, ignore him and walk past. However, a Samaritan—a person typically seen as an outsider—unexpectedly stops to help the hurting man.

The Good Samaritan brings healing, hope, and peace to the man who felt overlooked and ignored by the first two individuals he encountered on his journey. The Good Samaritan embodies the essence of a true PeaceMaker.

At SOLID, we are dedicated to empowering and supporting PeaceMakers who strive to make a positive difference in their communities.

Why does this story come to mind when I think about our donors?

Our generous donors are essential to our mission because the work of the Good Samaritan involves financial costs. Each act of kindness requires time, effort, and significant funding to effectively share life, hope, and healing as PeaceMakers.

At SOLID, our PeaceMakers bring hope, healing, and peace to the community thanks to the support of our donors.

During this season of gratitude, I reflect on how thankful I am for our dedicated PeaceMakers in Paterson, NJ, who are making a real difference. Their hard work inspires me.

I appreciate each and every friend, foundation, and sponsor whose generous support makes this important work possible. Finally, I want to especially acknowledge my deep appreciation to the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General for making substantial investments into our important work aimed at preventing violence in our communities.

By providing these resources, our supporters give kids incredible opportunities to connect with our dedicated PeaceMakers, who serve as positive role models and mentors.
